With these interfaces, the human brain can communicate with machines in ways that were once the stuff of science fiction.

The concept of a direct neural interface has captivated the imaginations of scientists, engineers, and futurists alike for decades. Early experiments in this field focused on understanding how the brain generates signals that control motor function and cognition. Today, BCIs are being developed for a wide range of applications, from medical treatments to human enhancement and neuroprosthetics.
